Happy Friday! What do you have planned for the weekend? Lately, I have been feeling exhausted when I wake up. You know… always playing catch up… always trying to get one step ahead. I was hoping to take a few days off to do nothing, but decided to squeeze in a mini mid-week break to Seattle. I find that I relax best when I’m away. Do you feel the same way?
Robert has been taking baking classes at the Vancouver Pastry School since last November. So far, he has participated in 4 pastry classes ranging from the basics to the perfect afternoon tea and he just completed his first artisan bread baking class last Tuesday. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but now that he has signed up for 3 more bread classes including learning how to make croissants, I think I am in trouble!
After 12 long weeks waiting for our shipping container to arrive, I am excited to start baking again! I tend to prefer salty treats to sweet desserts, but how can you resist these beautiful images from Sweetapolita! A cake designer, food blogger, and self proclaimed “baking fanatic and baked good junkie”, see her full flickr photostream here.
It may not be as trendy as East London, but in a place called Tooting Broadway on the Northern Line, you will find the Tooting Tram and Social pub (46-48 Mitcham Road, London SW17 9NA). On Sunday, November 27th from 11am-5pm, it will play host to London’s newest craft fair, Got Craft?. Started in 2007 in Canada, Got Craft? began as an indie craft fair aimed at bringing together a community that fosters handmade and DIY culture.
Featuring over 20 hand picked designers, some of my favourites include custom liqueurs by Alchemist Dreams, decorative wooden ornaments by Anna Wiscombe, homemade jams and chutneys by Homemade Hampers, vegan friendly skincare products by Lovely Gorgeous Things and Pretty Zoo who uses her own illustrations to make beautiful jewellery pieces. Browse this year’s artist line up online – http://gotcraft.com/london/vendors. Buttercupcakes will also be running a tea and cake station with a selection of hot and cold menu items and a full bar will be available by the Tooting Tram and Social.
For those feeling inspired, Crafty Pint, a collective of local creatives living and working in South London, will be leading interactive workshops to teach you how to make your own bow ties using recycled materials and Lynne from Papermash will host a DIY wrapping station (donation to charity). And don’t miss DJ Frida Black-Heart akaDebbie from Craft Guerrilla spinning her crafty beats from noon to 4:00pm!
Admission is £1 and be one of the first 30 people through the door for a coveted reusable tote bag from EtsyUK filled with goodies from all of our stalls! For more information, visit our website here.
Another new London shop tour is up over on Poppytalk! Go check out Drink, Shop & Do near Kings Cross Station to shop for some handmade goodies while enjoying tea and cake (or a harder drink if preferred * wink *). This Sunday is summers ice-cream sundae sessions which you don’t want to miss! Check out my full post here.
And if you missed the first two shop tours of my four part series, catch up here – Hoxton Monster Supply Shop + Labour and Wait. As always, a thank you to Ana Maria for the beautiful pictures. You can visit her lifestyle blog here.
A round up of dessert table images that I have “pinned” to my wedding board using pinterest (follow me here). No more plain white table cloths with a single layer of sweet squares and wedding cake. Couples are getting an A+ when it comes to dessert table displays and it is definitely paying off. Think cupcakes… sweets… pies… cakes… All of your favourites treats displayed on the prettiest antique tables, dressers and drawers with retro lace and linens. So picture worthy!
