When I first moved to London, friends told me that people who live in South London stay in the South and people who live in North London stay in the North. I’m here to tell you that it isn’t true!
To prepare for the first ever Got Craft? London on Sunday, November 27th, we decided to help our visitors make it a day out by rounding up a few of our favourite places South of the Thames. So grab a cuppa, visit our stall holder page to see all of the talented handmade designers that will be at Got Craft? and start planning your weekend!
There are numerous markets to choose from in London and new-to-me Venn Street Market in Clapham is one of my favourite finds. Make sure to pick up a vegan cupcake from Ms. Cupcake and a fancy coffee drink over at Esca Coffee Shop just around the corner. If you wake up late and miss most of the goods, walk down the street to Breads Etcetera on the Clapham High Street for some freshly baked treats!
To escape the hustle and bustle of London, pack up a picnik and take a stroll through Clapham Common. Stretching across 108 acres, you will often find people jogging and playing Rugby. There’s even a skateboard park and cafe.
Heading into Tooting, a local added that the halal mixed grill from Pandoos and the hazelnut dessert from Mirch Masala is a must. Of course, we must not forget our lovely hosts, the Tooting Tram and Social! With their eclectic mix of vintage furniture, the coverted tram shed has a vast selection of beer and wine for you to enjoy. Just across from the Tooting Tram and Social is the Gala Bingo building that was formerly the Granada Tooting Cinema. Built in 1931, it is considered to be one of the most spectacular cinemas in Britain and is open to the public for a peek.
Hungry in Brixton? Make sure to check out all the shops and places to eat at Brixton Village or take a seat at the Dogstar Pub, sister to the Tooting Tram and Social and home of Crafty Fox Pop Up Market. Brixton Whole Foods is also a great stop for those looking for specialty health food and bulk herbs (lavender for crafting!).
Have any South London tips of your own? We would love to hear from you! We are super excited to be hosting our first craft fair in London and look forward to meeting all of you real soon! Cheerio!
