New Workshop with Maurelle Calligraphy

MaurelleCalligraphyWorkshopWe’re pleased to announce that Maurelle Calligraphy will be hosting a beginner calligraphy workshop at London Fields Shoppe on July 18th. Focusing on modern calligraphy, Maurelle will cover the fundamentals including the basics of traditional copperplate style script where you use a sharp pointed nib rather than the flat nib used in most calligraphic writing. You will also learn how to write the complete alphabet and to find your own style, the proper use of calligraphy tools and equipment, and tips and tricks on how to hone your skills. This is a perfect workshop for those with little, or no, experience in using a pointed pen.

The 3 hour workshop includes 1 pen holder, 2 nibs, a calligraphy worksheet, a jar of ink, and a handmade wood pen holder. Light refreshments will be served.

Maurelle is a modern calligrapher, who fell in love with the old world charm of writing letters at the age of 15. Inspired by the beautiful nature in British Columbia, old French letters, and vintage calligraphy books, she collaborates with exceptional wedding vendors and has had her work featured in a number of noteworthy and remarkable magazines and blogs (Adore Magazine, Belle Lumiere Magazine, Real Weddings, The Luxe Pearl, Wedluxe and Style Me Pretty Canada). Her clients have also included Dior and I, Nordstrom Canada and L’Oreal Paris just to name a few. Her most recent project was with the ABC series “Once Upon A Time” Season 4, where one of her calligraphy styles was showcased as the handwriting of one of the main characters.

In 1965, John moved to Vancouver from California and over the next 17 years, he would find himself working in 7 different sign shops before opening up his own business in 1982. With the popularity of computers in the late 1980′s and 1990′s, John realized that he was doing less and less hand lettering and decided to sell his shop in the year 2000 and go back to strictly doing what he loves. BIG TOP SIGN ARTS was born specializing in hand lettering, gold leaf, and later on, pinstriping. Last September, he celebrated 50 years as a sign painter and looks forward to sharing his skills!
