The Sewists

Sewists1Sewists2Back in 2012, I was contacted by Josephine Perry, an instructor at the Liberty Sewing School, to contribute a project for her upcoming book. I am super excited to announce that her book, The Sewists – DIY Projects from 20 Top Designers-Makers, will be launching in the UK this September!

From jewellery to bookbinding, felt craft to embroidery, screen-print to dressmaking, The Sewists takes a rare snoop inside the sewing rooms of creative crafters and gives space to the reasons why they love their craft. Projects include hand-bound notebooks, patchwork coasters, applique cushions, and of course, fabric pouches by Roxypop!

Thanks to Miranda from Blue Olive Photography for snapping the shots of my craft room!

things to do :: forest and waves pop-up

Forest-and-Waves-Pop-UpGot Craft? vendor, Edward Juan from Forest and Waves will be taking over the Chinatown Experiment this week with his very first pop-up retail store! Ed first contacted me last year when he was relocating from the US to Vancouver and I remember instantly falling in love with his work. As an avid surfer, and with him completing the NYC marathon last Sunday, it is no surprise that the store will be specializing in outdoor inspired goods – hence the name, Forest and Waves.

Along with his locally designed line of paper goods and tea towels, he will also carry a selection of clothing, home decor from Pigeon Toe Ceramics and LandonDix, skate boards from local designer Would Boards, and fabric pouches from Roxypop. I’ll be behind the counter giving Edward a helping hand, so stop by and say hello!

making :: IDSwest 2013 giveaway

roxypop-IDSwest-1How is it almost mid-September?! I have been busy cutting fabric, hand sewing snap clips, and literally spent the last few days chained to the sewing machine while catching up on netflix. Although I am normally the definition of a cram crafter, I’m feeling pretty good this year. Yes, I could have more fabric cut and I do wish I had an extra week, but don’t we all?

My first show of the season kicks off next week (Sept 19-22) with the District at IDSwest. I’ll be bringing my super kawaii items such as the pin backs pictured above, so come find the Roxypop booth and say hello! Interested in attending? I am giving away 4 pairs of tickets – 2 pairs for the opening night event (Sept 19 6-10pm) and 2 pairs for the show (Sept 20-22) – check the website for opening times and location. Value at $120.00. Leave a comment below and 4 winners will be chosen at random on Friday, September 13th at 12pm PST.

giveaway :: IDSwest 2012!

Scraps of fabric and thread strewn all over the craft room and eating takeaway at 8:00pm only signifies one thing… craft fair season! I have been busy prepping to participate at the first One of a Kind District at IDSwest building an entire custom set up including a table and signage that I am super excited to reveal at the event!

Showcasing 60 handmade artists, the new area will be a highlight at the Interior Design Show West in addition to Future Masters vol. 3 in partnership with ArtsyDartsy, and a full line up that you can check out on their website here.

Interested in attending? I have 3 pairs of general admission tickets (valued at $15 each) and 2 pairs of exclusive tickets to the opening night (valued at $20 each) up for grabs! To enter, leave a comment below and winners will be randomly chosen on Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 at noon (PST).

IDSwest runs from September 27th to September 30th, 2012 at the Vancouver Convention Center. Visit their website here for more information.
