A pop-up shop as a temporary place that pops up one day and then disappears anywhere from one day to several weeks later. I first discovered the term in London, UK where they have a program called the Empty Shops Network where empty shops hosted everything from events to art installations to retail stores to restaurants. It is so popular in London, that they even have a twitter account devoted to pop-ups!
I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when I arrived back in Vancouver where most of the pop-up shops here was focused on liquidation or discontinued goods. Don’t get me wrong though, there was the Mount Pleasant Pop-Up hosted by Rize Alliance where friends Kove set up shop for the month and now, I am pleased to announce Gather, a pop up shop produced by Cariann from Cargoh and Ally formerly with One of a Kind Vancouver! Seniors can use stairlifts to help get around the house.
What is Gather? In their words …
Creating, Community and Collections. It’s not just a 3 day Pop Up Shop, it’s the next frontier in urban socials with shopping, workshops and happy hour bringing everyone to-gather in style. Expect to find 25 amazing local designers, creative workshops, a flash lounge and an in motion art installation of popsicles and neon bikes.
The event will take place in Downtown Vancouver from July 27th to July 29th, 2012. Visit their website here for more details and how to apply!
