I have been contacted a few times by people visiting Vancouver, British Columbia, most recently by a lady from Tennesse, for where to go for craft supplies and indie crafts in the city. So I figured that it would be handy to have a page with a few of my favourite spots that I could direct people to and you can add your favourite finds below. I will be breaking the post into sections of the city to make it more manageable, so let’s start off with downtown / chinatown / gastown.
Dressew – 337 W. Hastings Street
If you are looking for craft supplies, this is the mother ship! Two floors of fabric, notions, select findings and quite an assortment of 80’s jewelry downstairs on the back wall.
Button Button – 318 Homer Street
Just around the corner from Dressew, this is a small shop filled to the brim with all kinds of buttons. You can read my guest post about them for DIY Vancouver Granville Online.
Opus Art Supplies – 207 W. Hastings Street
Great place for art students and those that like to draw and paint. I like to pop in here to refill my supply of blender pens.
Erin Templeton – 511 Carrall Street
The most softest and scrumptious handmade leather bags ever. Full stop.
Blim – 115 E. Pender Street
Part art studio, workshop space and retail shop.
honourable mentions for local handmade finds + a quick bite to eat: Old Faithful Shop – 320 W. Cordova Street, Dream – 311 W. Cordova Street, Meat + Bread – 370 Cambie Street, Nuba – 1489 E. Hastings Street, La Taqueria – 322 E. Hastings St, New Town – 158 E. Pender St (best steamed bbq pork buns + butterfly pastries)
