We’re welcoming Maurelle from Maurelle Calligraphy back to London Fields Shoppe for another beginner workshop. For those that joined us last year, stay tuned for more details about our upcoming advanced class on Saturday, April 16th.

Focusing on modern calligraphy, Maurelle will cover the fundamentals including the basics of traditional copperplate style script where you use a sharp pointed nib rather than the flat nib used in most calligraphic writing. You will also learn how to write the complete alphabet and to find your own style, the proper use of calligraphy tools and equipment, and tips and tricks on how to hone your skills. This is a perfect workshop for those with little, or no, experience in using a pointed pen.
The 3 hour workshop includes 1 pen holder, 2 nibs, a calligraphy worksheet, a jar of ink, and a handmade wood pen holder.
Workshop date:
Saturday, April 2nd, 2016
10:00am to 1:00pm
In his class, John discusses brush lettering in general and specifically the BullNose letter style, one of the most basic of hand painted styles. Consisting of 6 basic strokes, John will teach you how to create both upper and lower case letters as well as proper brush handling, brushcare, and the types of paints used. The first half of the hands-on workshop will cover the above, along with getting your brushes into the paint and practicing the 6 basic strokes. While the second half will move into letters and finish up with the creation of a few pieces to take home. “The Swoop” will also be discussed, demonstrated, and if time allows, be put to use in the finished pieces.
Materials included:
A 1-2 word piece using both upper and lower case in the BullNose lettering style
A Series 169 #8 Mack brush
