in the city ::

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster the last few days while we prepare for our move back to Vancouver. We have been busy playing “weigh the suitcase”, organizing boxes, cleaning, and listing things for sale. We had guests over on the weekend, and I forgot to leave extra towels and mugs for them – oops! It was all good though. Our last week here was spent enjoying London’s first snow fall, getting caught in a nightmare traffic jam enroute to the best burgers ever at Brixton Village (4.5 hour round trip from East Putney to Brixton!!), trying out new-to-us coffee shops in Chancery Lane + Shoreditch, seeing the London Summer Olympics 2012 medals at the British Museum, researching future shop tours, and rediscovering macarons (pistachio + vanilla are my fav!).

I’m currently sitting on the floor of the living room waiting for the internet people to disconnect our service. It may be a little quiet the next few days while we travel and settle in, but we will check in soon! In the meantime, feel free to stay in touch via twitter! See you soon sushi Vancouver!

London (UK) ->Vancouver

February 2012 marks our one year spent in London, UK and we just made our plans to move back to Vancouver, BC. Spending 3 weeks in Vancouver at the beginning of December has been fantastic and it felt really nice to be back in familiar surroundings. However, now that we have set a date to depart, I can’t help feeling anxious to soak in as much of London as I possibly can before our move.

Contrary to what some believed, this was never a forever thing. Our plan was to stay here 12-18 months. We met all of our goals and know that we will back to the City in the Summer for work. We have already started planning life in the new year and are still in awe of what an amazing experience this has been. I know that this is a good thing, but there is a part of me that is staring out the window watching the neighbourhood wake up and thinking how beautiful the morning light is (sleep has been completely out of whack ever since returning from Canada!). The grass is always greener right?

six months

We have officially been living in London for six months and even though we returned to Vancouver back in May for Got Craft, I can’t believe it has been that long. Like Becka mentioned in her ‘past 6 months post’, things have definitely taken longer to fall into place then we had expected. There has been no tears, but we have good days and those where we wonder what in the world we are doing over here. Our first goal is to stay here for one year and then reevaluate our next steps.

That being said, we do love it here. It’s London! What’s not to love? There is so much to do here and so much to see. Not to mention that the rest of Europe is at our door step! Twitter and facebook have definitely helped quench the homesickness and we have already had a great stream of house guests come through chez Andrea + Robert. We have also met some fantastic new friends and the craft community here has been so welcoming. Not everybody has this opportunity and we are truly lucky to be able to live and work in both countries.

I, like Becka, is happy we made the decision to come here, but I don’t see it as home quite yet. The next six months will be filled with mini-breaks and field trips, more house guests, Got Craft UK and documenting more of our adventures! I’m actually a bit back-logged with our field trip posts, so I hope you are enjoying them.
